Dear Hommie,
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Refugee Week, and we figured it would not make sense to celebrate it without you
We placed these mirrors in the streets to invite you to reflect upon how you can extend your kindness and compassion towards people seeking safety and how you can put them in action
The barbed wire represents the prison-like camps in which refugees are contained and the seventy-four border walls across the world that have been erected to divide โusโ from โthemโ.
Because we are all part of a human family, we decided to show you that this barbed wire does not need to have the power to divide humanity: together, we can show refugees we care by making sure that our kindness is stronger than borders
But why compassion? The last few years have been particularly challenging for all of us. We are still adapting to a post-pandemic reality whilst responding to humanitarian emergencies, and across the globe, threatening anti-migrant rhetoric is fuelling hostility towards refugees
HOM is lucky to count with 17 volunteers who believe in the value of every single human life, and strive to build a compassionate world by promoting fairness, solidarity and respect for universal human rights
We know that we are part of a โbigger usโ and this makes us more aware of the need to show our humanity.
This campaign seeks to ask everyone to see beyond just their immediate family, circle, town or country, and to extend kindness to someone they donโt – and may never – know. Someone forced to flee war and persecution. Someone seeking refuge. But, to truly create a contagious wave of love, we need your help:
Please take one of the flowers placed on the floor and offer it to someone who should read a message about a humanity with love. Sharing is caring
Take a picture in our mirror or with your flower and share it on social media, tagging @humanityonthemove.hom and using the hashtag #HOMsharelove
To help us keep working and bring our projects to life, you can support our work through a donation or join the team! We have been working on so many beautiful projects we would love to share with you soon! Until then, check out our previous work.
This week, letโs work together to open our hearts to refugees. After all, team work makes the dream work
Sending you a lot of love,
From our HOM team to all our Hommie friends
