2023 started with HOM’s participation in an important conversation regarding Women, Life, Freedom and the Iranian revolution. Invited by the Minho University’s Centre of International Relations and the organisation HeForShe, we focused on women’s central role in this revolutionary movement and explored the ways in which other essential groups of protestants recognise that the oppression of women is the most visible manifestation of a larger system of state terror.

 

The combination of divergent struggles – women’s oppression, religious oppression and state terror – into an organic unity shows us that Iran’s fight for freedom speaks to an international movement for humanity and presents several learning opportunities for those that seek to fight oppression by forming social networks and feeding the protests’ momentum.
